UBUNTU

“I am because you are, you are because we are”

Ubuntu is a Zulu/Xhosa/Ndebele/Sesotho/Shona word. It is part of an indigenous philosophy, which is the interdependence of persons for the exercise, development and fulfillment of their potential to be both individuals and community. SANTO-FI acknowledges the interdependence of its community/collaborators for the work of its mission and strives in all its medium to ensure fulfillment of the group as well as the individual.

Shelldon Bowers

Tattooist

Interests: Art, Skateboarding, Music, Jiu Jitsu as Self-Defense

Bio: Like most hardcore skateboarders, I’m interested in individual thinking and creative problem solving. Technique and deeper understanding has always been the best way to find focus and progress in all my art forms. I started skateboarding in 1986 rolling through the 90s and 2000s with many sponsorships, events, and travel competitions. My focus on skateboarding seemed to fade only a little as I aged and shifted my priorities to working through many of Australias best tattoo studios learning the art from many of the greats of that era. I decided my path young and have been dedicated to the tattoo industry and learning since 1991 becoming an apprentice in 1994. Tattooing definitely shaped my art into a well rounded and versatile array of many styles. I’m most happy using my imagination to spontaneously create drawings from my own mind with a focus on expression and capturing the feeling. Tattooing has been my only source of income my entire life and my art is mostly self-taught with 2 years of art school in my mid 20s. I moved around alot as a kid and to further my career and also have travelled alot with this job. I play music creatively everyday and have been learning jiujitsu with a focus on basics and a self-defense mindset since 2013. I was instantly hooked with feeling that first sweep. I currently tattoo most days in my shop and can thank jiujitsu training for a healthy body that allows me to still skate hard and progress all the time. My most recent works and current focus is on some new oil paintings of jiujitsu rolls hoping to paint my favorite jiujitsu idols.
